A vigilant eye on cannabis news
- In 2023, Morocco‘s Cannabis Regulation Agency (ANRAC) granted 609 authorisations for legal cannabis production, overseeing various industry aspects, and recorded 294 tonnes of cannabis production; for 2024, ANRAC plans to prioritise local varieties and promote investments in the Moroccan cannabis sector to meet global market demands.
- Germany‘s plan to legalise adult-use cannabis for personal use faces criticism within the coalition government, particularly from federal state interior ministers who cite concerns about potential burdens on law enforcement, despite the country potentially becoming the third in Europe to legalise cannabis for personal use by revising the initial plan that included establishing a legal market.
- Proposed amendments to South Africa‘s Medicines and Related Substances Act may allow private use of cannabis plant material and THC-containing products without Schedule 6 regulation, contingent on their lack of pharmacological action or medicinal purpose, potentially reducing regulation for products currently categorised as Schedule 6 substances.
- The Czech Republic plans to roll back adult-use cannabis legalisation, with insiders suggesting it might be a strategic move to pressure opponents, as the draft version of the cannabis regulation bill omits plans for a full commercial market, intending to generate public support and influence the Christian Democrats’ stance on the matter.
