Swiss leader in cannabis tracking technology brings proven software and extensive experience to support Germany’s emerging adult-use cannabis market.

Zurich, Switzerland, October 10, 2024 – CANNAVIGIA (Vigia AG), a Swiss tech start-up revolutionizing process and compliance management for the cannabis industry, is excited to announce its readiness to support the upcoming adult-use cannabis pilot projects in Germany. As discussions continue with over 25 municipalities across multiple federal states, CANNAVIGIA stands prepared to provide its advanced Cannabis Dispensary System (CDS), adapted to meet the specific needs of the German regulatory framework.

Proven Success in Switzerland's Cannabis Market

Building on its exclusive ten-year contract with the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) in Switzerland, CANNAVIGIA has successfully managed all adult-use cannabis pilot projects in Switzerland through its cutting-edge software. CANNAVIGIA’s system is powering all current adult-use cannabis pilot projects in Switzerland, with two projects underway and seven pilots launched (several additional projects in development). With 48 points of sale (POS) currently in use - including pharmacies, social clubs, dispensaries, and drug information centers - CANNAVIGIA's system tracks every step of the cannabis supply chain, ensuring secure and compliant monitoring from production to the point of sale. The system will be tailored to meet Germany's pilot project requirements.

"Our software solution has successfully handled over 100,000 transactions across various products types such as flower, hashish, oils, vapes and edibles through our Swiss pilot projects," said Timo Bongartz, CEO of CANNAVIGIA. "With 48 points of sale and a participant base nearing 10,000 individuals, our platform has proven its scalability and reliability. As we move forward in Germany, we are fully prepared to replicate and adapt this success for the German pilot projects."

Tailoring the Software for Germany’s Regulatory Landscape

While Switzerland’s pilot project model closely mirrors Germany’s upcoming initiatives, CANNAVIGIA’s Cannabis Dispensary System will be specifically tailored to meet the requirements of German authorities. The software will enable comprehensive monitoring of all pilot project activities, ensuring that every stage of the process—from cultivation to retail sales—remains compliant with local, state, and federal laws. This data will provide essential insights into consumer behaviour, helping municipalities and policy makers make informed decisions about the future of cannabis legalisation.

Questioning the Political Will Amid Current Political Issues

Despite the readiness of many municipalities and the solid foundation provided by CANNAVIGIA’s technology, questions remain about the political will on a federal level. Germany’s political landscape faces competing priorities, raising concerns about whether the government is prepared to fully support these pilot projects. While local officials express enthusiasm, uncertainty persists at the national level regarding the pace and extent of political commitment. CANNAVIGIA remains optimistic but acknowledges that the realization of these pilot projects depends heavily on decisive federal action.

A Crucial Tool for Research and Future Legalisation

The key research drivers behind these pilot projects focus on understanding purchasing and consumption behaviors. The data collected through CANNAVIGIA’s software provides vital insights for public health authorities, research institutions, and policymakers. By anonymously tracking participant behaviour, the system aids in harm reduction strategies, helps dismantle the black market, and protects minors from exposure to cannabis.

"In Switzerland, our pilot projects have been a cornerstone of cannabis research, providing comprehensive insights into consumer behavior and market dynamics," said Philipp Hagenbach, Co-founder & COO of CANNAVIGIA and a specialist in Switzerland’s cannabis pilot projects. "With seven Swiss pilot projects currently running, and more to come, we’ve built a robust foundation for responsible cannabis use and compliance. We are working very closely with the producers and selling entities as well as authorities and research institutes. This expertise will be invaluable as Germany embarks on its own pilot projects, and we are eager to apply our experience to support this next phase of cannabis regulation."

With potentially more than five additional pilot projects expected to launch in Switzerland and the German initiatives potentially to follow, CANNAVIGIA’s robust infrastructure is ready to support the responsible implementation of these groundbreaking efforts.
